For groups of 20 or fewer golfers, the only way to secure a reservation is to Book Online or use The Fossil App. For multiple foursomes, use the “Groups” function in the search parameters. If you are new to the Fossil Trace tee time booking, you will be asked to create a profile and enter a credit card. No pre-payment is needed when making a reservation, payment is due upon check-in.

The course is open year-round, weather permitting. If you have a tee time during the Winter Season, view the Fossil Trace Web Cam for the most updated course conditions. A clear course on the Web Cam does not guarantee the golf course is open. We encourage you to call the Golf Shop 303.277.8750 during business hours for any course closures and late starts due to snow/frost.

The golf shop is open dawn until dusk every day during Early, Peak, and Late Season (March 13 – November 15).

During the Winter Season, the golf shop hours vary.

• In November and December, the shop is open 8am – 4pm every day regardless of weather
• In January and February, the shop is open 8am – 4pm daily. However, if the golf course and practice range are closed due to weather on the weekends, the shop will also be closed.

The practice range is open every day to the public at sunrise with the last bucket sold approximately 30 minutes before sunset. Dates and times are subject to change based on weather and maintenance schedules. During range closures, the putting green and short game area are typically open. View Practice Range Hours.

In the event of inclement weather, please call the Golf Shop at (303) 277.8750 during business hours for updated practice range information. Fossil Trace Golf Club does not provide equipment for practice range use.

Fossil Trace does not have a locker room or personal storage units. However, we strive to make accommodations for our traveling guests whenever possible. If you have come directly from the airport or are headed there immediately after your round – please call the Golf Shop at 303.277.8750 so we can arrange a place for you to store your luggage.

Yes, we have both a restaurant and bar! Footprints at Fossil Trace is open year round to the general public as well as golfers. The restaurant also hosts wedding, meetings, and events. Enjoy moments on the patio, overlooking the spectacular foothills of the Front Range. We serve delicious food with an emphasis on fresh, house made items and seasonal produce. We grind our burgers daily, make our own fries, sauces & dressings, and feature rotating local beer taps and seasonal craft cocktails perfect for any occasion. We also offer the perfectly poured pint of Barmen, a 7-miute pour pilsner, only available in select locations. 

Yes! The Patio at Footprints is THE place in Golden with the most incredible view overlooking the golf course, foothills, and Table Mountain. The patio is open to the public, but tables are available on a first come, first served basis.

Footprints Restaurant at Fossil Trace is open year-round, with special hours in the winter. Call 303.277.8755 for more details and to make reservations. You can also make a reservation online.

• In the spring, summer, and fall seasons, the restaurant is open from dawn until dusk.
• During winter, if the golf course is open, the restaurant is open from dawn until dusk. If the golf course is closed, please call 303.277.8755 for specific hours.

Yes! To make a dining reservation, visit us at OpenTable or call Footprints at Fossil Trace at (303) 277-8755 to make a reservation.

If you have a group of 16 or more and plan to visit the restaurant after your round, or for a special get together, you must make a dining reservation in advance. Footprints at Fossil Trace does not guarantee group seating without prior notice.

Outside coolers are not allowed on the golf course, restaurant, or anywhere on Fossil Trace property.

Footprints at Fossil Trace is pleased to provide a complimentary beverage cooler and fill it with drinks purchased at the bar, or from the beverage cart. A beverage cart will on the golf course during play unless specified otherwise by the restaurant staff. It is illegal to bring alcohol onto the premise.

During Peak Season there are 1-2 beverage carts on the golf course. During Early, Late, and Winter Season beverage carts are out depending on golf course traffic.

Holes 9 and 18 also finish by the club house if you would like to grab something at the turn.

We do not sell tobacco products. Fossil Trace Golf Club is a non-smoking facility due to our climate and prominent native areas.

Currently our Online Shop only offers virtual gift cards and GHIN for purchase, but we plan to offer a few merchandise items by the end of 2026.

Purchase a gift card in the shop, or you can buy a virtual gift card instantly in our Online Shop. The value on the gift card is a specified dollar amount, so even if it was originally purchased for private lessons, the recipient can spend it on any golf/cart/range fees, merchandise, or a club fitting as well.

A Fossil Trace Gift Card is always in a specified dollar amount and can be used for green/cart/range fees, merchandise, lessons, and club fitting.

If you participated in a charity event or outing at Fossil Trace, your gift card may say “Merchandise Only.” In that event, your gift card can be used for in-stock items in the Golf Shop only.

A Fossil Trace Gift Card cannot be used at Footprints Restaurant.

No, gift cards don’t expire. However, they are subject to a fee after 5 years from the activation date, so we recommend using them within that time.

Any tee times booked more that 7 days in advance will receive the standard full rate, regardless of residency.

A portion of our daily tee times are reserved for Golden Residents only. These tee times are available up to 7 days in advance. If they remain un-booked by 48 hours (2 days) before time of play, they are released to the general public. Fossil Trace does not guarantee tee time availability. To book a lesson, use our Online Booking App. The availability listed for each instructor is accurate and in real time. No payment is due until you arrive for your lesson, and you will not be asked for any payment information.

Everyone! Whether you’re a beginner, skilled, woman, man, or child – we have a lesson plan for you.

Typically 4 years old – if younger, chat with our professional staff via the Golf School form. For private lessons, they must be able to separate from their parents comfortably. For group lessons, they must also be able to follow rules, listen, and take turns.

Request a club fitting session through our Club Fitting form. Note that the date and time you select is a request, not a booking. A member of our fitting staff will reach out within 24 hours to confirm your actual session time.

You can purchase a GHIN through our Online Shop. If you are renewing your membership, we will re-activate the new season for you. if you are a new GHIN member at our club, we will put in your contact information, generate a GHIN number, and send the activation information to you via e-mail.

Spectators are welcome at Fossil Trace; however, golf carts are prioritized for players. There is a maximum of 3 total carts allowed on the course per tee time. While there is not an age minimum requirement for spectators, we do not recommend bringing non-golfing juniors, as they are required to remain in the cart for everyone’s safety and enjoyment of their round.

If riding along in a golf cart, the cost is $50 for 18 holes, $25 for 9 holes – subject to availability. If you are booking a tee time, do not include the non-playing rider as part of your reservation.

Children not playing that are 6 years old and younger are welcome to ride along at no charge. While there is not an age minimum requirement for spectators, we do not recommend bringing non-golfing juniors, as they are required to remain in the cart for everyone’s safety and enjoyment of their round.

The paths that travel through the golf course are for Fossil Trace Golf Club guests only. The golf course and its carts are not open to non-golfers for safety purposes (with the exception of ride-along golf spectators). Those to enter Fossil Trace Golf Club property without authorization will be escorted off immediately.

We offer push carts complimentary to any golfers choosing to walk the course while playing.

On a warm day with a full course, pace expectations are between 4:20 and 4:40.

With less time for leisure and more time spent at work, with friends, family, and other recreational activities, our goal is to create a memorable experience for everyone by managing sound pace of play guidelines.

A round with good flow, great conditions, and breathtaking surroundings creates the most memorable golf experience for all golfers.

Using GPS tracking, we used data from 100,000+ rounds played during the summer season to determine how long it takes guests to play each hole. We combined this data with other factors like course setup, beverage carts, and distances from tee-to-green to create a pace with fewer waits and better flow.

Proper, casual golf attire is requested and appreciated for all guests whether playing, practicing, or spectating.

Per guidelines of Twilight golf, and for staff safety – flagsticks are removed from the course at sunset (not darkness). Carts are required to be turned in soon after. Use the Sunrise-Sunset Tool to verify sunset times by day.

We recognize some guests may have physical conditions/restrictions which make it difficult to walk normal distances or slopes while playing golf. The GPS system will be updated to allow for handicap-specific access to the golf course to those who qualify.

Handicapped golf cart privileges may be extended only to qualified individuals who: possess a state issued ID, handicap-parking disability placard, or possess a written medical doctor’s note. One of the three options above must be presented upon check-in at the pro shop.

Fossil Trace Golf Club does not possess an inclement weather warning or detection system. Golfers are advised they are playing at their own risk and we are under no obligation to warn, retrieve, and/or remove anyone from the golf course due to inclement weather, including lightning.

Golfers may suspend their round at any time upon their own determination of the dangers of existing, impending or threatening inclement weather and golfers may be eligible for a rain check. Neither Fossil Trace Golf Club nor the City of Golden is responsible for injuries or damage resulting from inclement weather.

To check for frost delays or course closures, view the Fossil Trace Web Cam for the most updated course conditions. However, a clear course on the webcam does not guarantee the golf course is open and you are encouraged to call the Golf Shop at 303.277.8750.

Golfers may suspend their round at any time upon their own determination and can receive a rain check. The value of the rain check will be the prorated amount of unplayed holes. All rain checks expire on December 31 of the same calendar year they were given.

We have premium TaylorMade rental sets for women, men, left-handed, and right-handed golfers.

We are proud to offer premium 2026 TaylorMade Qi4D clubs including: driver, 3/5 fairway woods, 4 hybrid, 5-P irons, gap and sand wedge with a Spider putter. Women’s rental clubs are a 10-club, premium TaylorMade Kalea set including: driver, fairway, 4/5 hybrid, 6-P irons, and sand wedge with mallet putter. Rental sets include tees and a sleeve of TaylorMade balls. A driver’s license is held while rental clubs are on the course.

No reservation before checking in for your tee time is required, but are welcome to call the Golf Shop at 303.277.8750 to request a set in advance.

You don’t need to reserve rental clubs, we have plenty available. However, guests are welcome to call the Golf Shop at 303.277.8750 in advance of the reservation to request the needed sets of rentals.

No, we do not. If you would like to bring your own caddie, they are welcome. If your caddie chooses to ride a golf cart, he/she must pay a spectator fee – $50 for 18 holes, $25 for 9 holes.

The only method to secure a tee time at Fossil Trace is to Book Online or via The Fossil App. You may search for tee times without a profile, but to secure a reservation, you will be prompted to create a profile with a valid credit card. No pre-payment is needed when making a reservation, payment is due upon check-in.

You may call the Fossil Trace Golf Shop at 303.277.8750 to reserve a tee time for day-of tee times only. Our staff is happy to answer questions about your reservation or fees.

If you made a tee time online, you can login to your profile, and under “Reservations,” you can reduce or cancel your tee time(s). You will only be able to add another player if there is a spot remaining, as we do pair golfers into foursomes.

If you make a tee time via phone, you will need to call the Golf Shop at 303.277.8750 to cancel or modify your group. If you are part of a tee time that you did not reserve and want to cancel yourself, please call the Golf Shop.

There is no timing restrictions for reserving a tee time during Early, Peak, and Late Season. All tee times for 2026 In Season (March 13 – November 15) become available on January 28 and can be reserved at any time.

During Winter Season, tee times can only be reserved within 7 days of play. This is mostly due to the unpredictability of weather and course conditions.

Our reservation system requires a credit card on file for the profile booking the tee time. This card will be not be charged at the time of booking, but is liable for incidental charges such as: no shows, late cancellations, and/or any loss or damages suffered by Fossil Trace Golf Club by any guest or invitee of the group.

Payment for green fees is not due until during check-in on the date of play. You are welcome to pay individually or as a group via cash, credit/debit card or tap-to-pay.

If you cancel or modify your tee time at least 20 hours in advance, the credit card on file will not be charged. Failure to cancel unused tee times in that time frame will result in your credit card being automatically charged the full rate for each unused slot.

All singles, twosomes, and threesomes (even if playing in a group) are subject to being paired with other guests. If you have less than four golfers and would like to remain alone, you are welcome to pay for the entire tee time.

Rates vary based on season (Winter, Early, Peak, and Late). Peak Season fees for 2026 are $140 for weekday (Mon-Thurs), $175 for weekend & holiday (Fri-Sun) and include green fee, premium cart/GPS and range balls. For a full list of golf rates and fees, View All Rates.

All bookings reserved within 7 days of play offer the opportunity for various specialty and residency rates. This includes Twilight, military, junior, senior, Golden resident, and Jeffco resident.

9-hole rounds may be booked during the last 3 hours of sunlight only, and during summer months in the first hour of play on Saturday/Sunday mornings (also known as our Summer Sunrise 9).

We understand our Back 9 is popular, but rarely is it available on its own for 9 holes. It is the second 9 played for 18 hole players turning.
